About the LRC

Murphy Elementary features a flexibly scheduled Learning Resource Center (LRC). Students are welcome to come to the library individually or as part of a small group at any time to check out and return materials. Larger groups of students or entire classes reserve their time in the library in advance.

    Collaborative Integrated Instruction

Instruction comes from the library media specialist and the classroom teacher co-planning to create lessons that incorporate information literacy and technology skills into the Woodridge 68 curriculum in order to create authentic learning. By working together, the LRC Director and the classroom teachers are able to both work with students as they use information and technology. Our lessons and projects help prepare students by helping them become effective users of information and technology.

    Circulation Policies

    Number of Items

The following policies are in place to help students enjoy selecting materials while helping them grow in their responsibility for those materials.  Once a student has reached their maximum number of items, s/he will need to return something before checking out further materials.  All students are encouraged to return items to the LRC as soon as they are finished so they can check out new ones!

Kindergarten students are allowed to checkout 1 book for 1 week.

1st grade students are allowed to checkout 2 books for 1 week.

2nd grade students are allowed to checkout 3 books for 1 week.

3rd to 6th grade students are allowed to checkout 4 books for 2 weeks.

Note: Exceptions are made for any student who need more books than their grade-level maximum due to project work, research, or a love of reading.

Materials may be renewed as long as there are no holds. Students will need to bring the book to the LRC for renewal.

    Overdue Fines

There are no overdue fines, but lost or damaged books must be paid for so we can purchase a replacement.

    Lost or Damaged Library Materials

Accidents happen. Please return any damaged library books to the LRC with a note to let us know what happened. No fees are charged for simple repairs. If a book is lost or beyond repair (i.e. a lot of writing in the book, water damage, pet chewed on it, etc.), replacement cost for the library material will be charged.

    Access from Home

You can access most of our online resources from home (such as our library catalog (Destiny), World Book Encyclopedia, research links, etc.). Only the World Book Encyclopedia requires a login/password to access from home. Please stop by the LRC to pickup the login/password for home access.

    Special Programming

The Learning Resource Center hosts an annual book fair and a variety of other special events and programming throughout the year.
