Drinking Water Safety

In July 2016 Woodridge School District 68 proactively retained Wight & Company to provide a limited lead in drinking water study for all seven of our schools. The study involved only the sampling of all the drinking fountains and at the water meter at each facility. In March 2017 in accordance with state law, the District tested classroom sinks occupied by students below first grade and the kitchen faucets where food is prepared.

Sampling was conducted at each facility in accordance with established protocol by an Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) Licensed Lead Inspector. The samples were transported to First Environmental Laboratories, Inc. in Naperville, an IL ELAP/NELAC accredited laboratory, for analysis of lead in water.

The United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has established a reporting level of 5 PPB and an action level of 15 PPB of lead in water as the maximum safe level for potable water consumption by humans.
