E-Learning

E-learning days will be utilized in lieu of traditional "snow days." Please see the Emergency School Closing page for information about notification.

Illinois School Code (105 ILCS 5/10-20.56) allows for the use of e-learning days in lieu of emergency days, but each school district’s e-learning program must be submitted for approval by the DuPage County Regional Office of Education (ROE). The plan must be approved every three years by our Board of Education. The ROE will review and approve our plan annually.

E-learning plan

All e-learning plans must contain certain provisions, the details of which are posted here. Click on a provision to read how Woodridge 68 will reasonably and practically accomplish them.

Ensure and verify at least 5 clock hours of instruction or school work, as required under Section 10-19.05, for each student participating in an e-learning day

Ensure access from home or other appropriate remote facility for all students participating, including computers, the Internet, and other forms of electronic communication that must be utilized in the proposed program

Woodridge School District 68 has been implementing its 1:1 Chromebook initiative since August 2020. Our district has the infrastructure and professional capacity in place to support the adoption of e-learning days in place of traditional emergency days. A recent survey of our home connectivity indicates that 98% of our students have access to reliable internet service at home. At individual campuses, school staff will work with individual families to accommodate as needed (e.g. loaner WiFi ‘hot spot’ and access to Comcast Internet Essentials).

Ensure that non-electronic materials are made available for students participating in the program who do not have access to the required technology or to participating teachers or students who are prevented from accessing the required technology

Ensure appropriate learning opportunities for students with special needs

Individual student needs are addressed at the teacher-design level of the lesson on Google Meet or Zoom. As in a lesson plan design in any regular student attendance day, teachers will customize according to, in this case, an Individualized Education Program (IEP) for students with special needs.

Related certified service providers and/or specialists, including EL resource are available for student support, individualized or otherwise, according to the same schedule as teachers.

Monitor and verify each student's electronic participation

Teachers will monitor each child’s performance as materials are submitted during the course of the day. It is expected that each child’s completed work will be finalized by 3:30pm each day. Teachers will be checking student work and attendance throughout the day.

If an extended due date is required by the student, we ask that the parent contact the teacher directly to discuss the circumstances.

Daily attendance will be recorded by the teacher to start each e-learning day through Google Meet or Zoom. Further, participation will also be monitored throughout the day by the classroom teacher.

Address the extent to which student participation is within the student's control as to the time, pace, and means of learning

Provide effective notice to students and their parents or guardians of the use of particular days for e-learning

Our plan and programming will be permanently posted on the District’s website. Further, E-Learning Days held in lieu of Emergency School Closure Days will be announced via e-blast, robocall, website publication, and Emergency Closing Center postings and this strategy will continue to be used moving forward. Provide staff and students with adequate training for e-learning days' participation

Ensure an opportunity for any collective bargaining negotiations with representatives of the school district's employees that would be legally required, and...

...including all classifications of school district employees who are represented by collective bargaining agreements and who would be affected in the event of an e-learning day.

The WEA, WESS and Woodridge 68 administration have discussed and agreed to the practices and protocols when implementing our E-Learning Plan. Each classification of the Woodridge Educational Support Staff (WESS), will work remotely on E-learning Days. Teaching Assistants will log into classes throughout the day to support students while our RN, LRC Assistants, Health Aides and Secretaries will all work to assist the Principal remotely as needed. These groups would be paid during the emergency days off as if they were in person working. The intent of the discussions are to ensure continued compliance with the collective bargaining agreements to the extent possible.

Review and revise the program as implemented to address difficulties confronted

The WEA and WESS have monthly meetings to address any difficulties that may arise in either E-Learning or any other collective bargaining agreement matter that may arise. During the actual E-Learning Days, all staff will have access to their supervisors if needed to address any issues that may arise. Teachers, support staff, and administration understand all parties must be flexible and willing to collaborate on the impact of potential updates and changes to the plan. The information will be placed on the District’s website and communicated by memo to staff if anything to the plan changes.

Ensure that the protocol regarding general expectations and responsibilities of the program is communicated to teachers, staff, and students at least 30 days prior to utilizing an e-learning day
