Mr. Jacob Engler

Welcome new and returning Murphy students and parents. My name is Jacob Engler and I am honored to be the principal at William F. Murphy Elementary School. I look forward to working together to support our students’ successes while learning about the rich school history and traditions that make Murphy School special!

As your principal, I am excited to share my passion for learning with the Murphy community. I have been an educator for 15 years beginning as a classroom teacher in the 4th and 5th grades and a high school coach, followed by time as a district math coordinator, assistant principal then an elementary school principal for seven years. I am extremely grateful for the opportunities I’ve had to participate in creating engaging learning environments and supporting student success. Looking forward, it will be my pleasure to collaborate with the Murphy staff and community to continue its tradition of student-centered learning as we work together to prepare our students for their futures.

My expectations for students as they engage in their learning are based on a growth mindset. I believe in order to effectively prepare our students for college and careers, we must assist them in developing thinking skills that allow them to ask questions such as:

  • Which strategies can I use to solve this problem?
  • Am I on the right track? If not, what can I do differently to achieve my goal?
  • I made a mistake, what can I learn from this?
  • How can I turn this obstacle into an opportunity?

It is with a growth mindset that we can best prepare students for the challenges that they will encounter, and it is clear the Murphy community is already firm in this approach to learning!

As an educator and father of three boys, I know that learning is a part of everything we do. From building Legos, playing video games, kicking around a soccer ball, even playing on the playground…we can find learning opportunities everywhere! It is with patience, encouragement, creativity, and a growth mindset that all students can learn and grow.

If anyone on the Murphy team can be of assistance to you during the school year, please don’t hesitate to contact us.

Thank you for sharing your student(s) with us! I look forward to working together to support each of our Murphy students to reach his/her full potential.

Make it a great day!
