School improvement plan
Goals
School Improvement Goal #1: Collective Teacher Efficacy
Strengthen student learning outcomes by applying the Teach-Measure-Learn cycle effectively in Impact Team meetings, with staff expanding their understanding of formative assessments during the Measure phase.
School Improvement Goal # 2: Notice, Name, Navigate
Each month, Edgewood School will hold Eagles' Nest sessions focused on building community and providing students with opportunities to practice CHAMPS, Kagan cooperative learning, and Notice-Name-Navigate strategies together.
Rationale
Goal #1: Collective Teacher Efficacy
This goal is designed to enhance student learning outcomes by building a collaborative culture among educators, using the Teach-Measure-Learn cycle within Impact Team meetings. By deepening staff understanding of formative assessments during the Measure phase, teachers can make data-informed adjustments to their instructional practices, fostering a shared belief in their collective ability to positively impact student achievement. Research on collective teacher efficacy shows that when teachers collaborate effectively, student success increases, making this a crucial goal for continuous school improvement.
Goal #2: Notice, Name, Navigate
To foster a positive, inclusive school environment, Edgewood School will host Eagles’ Nest meetings each month, providing structured time for community building and social-emotional learning. Through activities like CHAMPS, Kagan cooperative learning, and Notice-Name-Navigate strategies, students will develop essential interpersonal and self-regulation skills, leading to improved engagement and classroom behavior. This goal aligns with our commitment to creating a supportive learning community where students can practice social-emotional skills and build meaningful connections.
Activities/Strategies
Goal #1: Collective Teacher Efficacy
- Teach-Measure-Learn Cycles-During Impact Team meetings, teachers collaboratively analyze assessment data, discussing trends and identifying specific areas for instructional adjustments.
- Collaborative Lesson Planning: Teams plan lessons together, integrating formative assessments at strategic points to gauge student understanding, using the results to adjust teaching in real time.
- Student Self-Assessments: Develop self-assessment tools that teachers can use with students to promote student ownership of learning and to provide data for the Measure phase.
Goal #2: Notice, Name, Navigate
- CHAMPS Strategies Practice: Incorporate CHAMPS (Conversation, Help, Activity, Movement, Participation, Success) framework in Eagles’ Nest sessions, helping students understand expectations for various school settings and reinforcing positive behaviors.
- Kagan Cooperative Learning Structures: Use structures like “Rally Robin,” “Round Robin,” or “Think-Pair-Share” to promote teamwork and ensure all students are engaged in discussions. These activities encourage active listening, turn-taking, and collaboration.
- Eagles' Nest Community Circles: Begin each session with a community circle.
- Theme-Believe: The "Believe" theme in Eagles' Nest fosters self-confidence and community support through affirmations, goal-setting, peer encouragement, and growth mindset activities that help students build belief in themselves and each other
