School improvement plan
Goals
Goal #1:
Implement a formalized Learn Phase reflection protocol within all Impact Teams, resulting in 100% of departments documenting major learnings in their log every four meetings, and leading to the adoption of evidence-based instructional strategies that produce a measurable increase in student engagement and academic achievement on targeted learning standards.
Goal #2:
Implement a mandatory cross-departmental peer visit and reflection cycle for all JJH staff, resulting in a measurable increase in the overall Collective Teacher Efficacy (CTE) Index score by the end of the 2025-2026 school year, and leading to the school-wide adoption of effective instructional practices that produce a minimum of 5% growth in student engagement.
Rationale
Goal #1:
The intention of implementing a formalized Learn Phase at Jefferson Junior High is to support teacher reflective practices, monitor the impact we are having on student learning, and support the Teach, Measure, Learning cycle that is utilized in Impact Teams. This phase will help foster collaboration amongst department members and help ensure that students are receiving the best research based instructional strategies and experiences.
Goal #2:
Teacher Collective Efficacy is the shared belief among school staff that they can positively impact student achievement together, rather than individually. A desire expressed by staff on the Enabling Conditions for Teacher Collective Efficacy survey was to gain a deeper understanding of the instructional practices used by staff members across the building. It is our intention to allow staff the opportunity to push into one another's classrooms to visit and see best practices in action. This type of professional development will promote ongoing professional learning and help staff make connections between other courses that students learn in each day.
Activities/Strategies
Goal #1:
- 100% of Impact Teams will establish and formally implement a Learn Phase reflection protocol within the first trimester of the school year.
- Impact Team documentation logs will show that major learnings are entered and reviewed in at least 25% of all Impact Team meetings (occurring at least every four meetings).
- The Learn Phase reflections will successfully help staff identify and document the instructional structures that were most effective in helping students grow academically in 100% of documented Impact Team cycles
- Staff will utilize the learnings to determine a priority professional development need for the subsequent trimester in 100% of Trimester Reflections during faculty meetings
- Student Engagement: Qualitative evidence (e.g., student survey data, classroom observation rubrics) will show a measurable increase in the frequency and depth of student engagement behaviors tied to the adopted strategies (as identified in the Learn Phase).
Goal #2:
- 90% of certified staff will complete and document a minimum of three full peer observation cycles (visit of a cross-departmental peer and a follow-up meeting) during the 2025-2026 school year.
- 90% of all staff will reflect on new student engagement practices learned through the peer visit and include a plan for its implementation in their own curriculum
- Measurable increases in student engagement will be evident by an improvement in the average student score on a common, Trimester-administered student engagement survey or rubric by at least 5% from the start of the year to the end of the year.
- The average staff agreement score on the Conditions for Collective Teacher Efficacy Survey Question 18 ("Teachers are aware of the teaching practices used by other teachers in this school") will increase by a minimum of 10 percentage points by May 28, 2026, compared to the 2024-2025 end-of-year baseline data
