Student Wellness

Woodridge 68 offers a variety of activities to promote student wellness

  • After School Programming

Woodridge 68 offers after-school programming to provide additional enrichment and intervention opportunities for elementary students. Three sessions are held throughout the school year; programming is held at each elementary school three days a week (Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday). Each school develops three courses per session based on student needs.

    Athletic, Interscholastic, and Extracurricular Activities

Woodridge 68 provides both intramural sports and interscholastic activities for all children in grades 7 and 8. Participation of elementary students is permitted if all eligibility requirements are met as detailed in the Jefferson Junior High School Athletic Handbook. Thomas Jefferson Junior High is a member of the Southeast DuPage Elementary Athletic Association (SDEAA) and competes or participates in all 10 sports/activities offered. In addition to intramural and interscholastic activities, junior high students have the opportunity to participate in several extracurricular groups, clubs, and activities throughout the school year.

    Playworks

Play during recess at the elementary schools is structured to create a place for every kid on the playground, a place where every kid belongs, has fun and is part of the game. This is accomplished through the training and tools provided by Playworks. Playworks is the leading national nonprofit leveraging the power of play to transform children’s social and emotional health. This approach offers an essential opportunity for children to explore their imaginations, to connect with other kids and to stretch and grow physically, emotionally and socially.

    GRIT

This program is presented by the Woodridge Police Department. Those that have GRIT possess a special combination of passion and persistence to overcome challenges. GRIT is a concept developed by Angela Duckworth, Ph.D. that expounds perseverance and passion for achieving long-term goals. Essentially, GRIT says that the people that work hard, may fail, but are willing to try again, are those most likely to succeed. GRIT will also focus on educating parents regarding the current issues facing our youth.

The Woodridge Police Department’s GRIT program will highlight perseverance, hard work, and a drive to better oneself – lessons that can have a long-last impact to achieve a higher quality of life.
