Updated Mask Policy

July 29, 2021

Last week we shared with you general guidelines for back to school, including in-person instruction, vaccination status, wearing masks, cleaning & disinfecting, and quarantine & contact tracing. On July 27, 2021 the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) updated its guidance for fully vaccinated people, recommending universal indoor masking for all teachers, staff and visitors regardless of vaccination status. The Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) has fully adopted these changes.

Because we follow the recommendations and guidance of public health officials, our back-to-school mask policy is revised to require masks be worn in all schools by staff, students, and visitors regardless of vaccination status. We know that circumstances can change quickly, so we will revisit this requirement as the situation evolves and updated guidance is received. To help contain the rising spread of COVID-19 in our community, we encourage everyone to practice mitigation strategies and for all eligible individuals age 12 and up to get vaccinated at Community High School District 99’s upcoming vaccine clinic or another location. Our hope is that through our collective efforts, the current trend of rising COVID-19 cases will be reversed.

School bus drivers and all students, regardless of grade level or vaccination status, are still required to wear masks while riding the school bus.

We received updated FAQs from IDPH, which we are reviewing and using in development of our return to school plan, and which we expect to complete over the next couple of weeks. We look forward to the return of students on August 18!
